This measures just a little larger than 6 inches. It ended up not fitting between our walls. So we went with the 4 inch by Mrs. H
I have a wide doorway and adding this extension was a really huge improvement in making the safety gate much more sturdy. It was an excellent value purchase for me. by VJ Mazz
